Trash talk: Palatine to discuss construction disposal, portable toilets

Trash talk is expected at next week’s Palatine village council meeting, but not the kind you might think.

The council will consider two related petitions — one involving the processing of construction materials, the other the storage of portable toilets — at its May 11 meeting.

The petitioner, Taz Holdings, LLC is seeking a special use for the transfer, storage and treatment of general construction materials, demolition debris and wood waste at a 60,000-square-foot building at 560 S. Hicks Road.

Keito Ido, attorney for the petitioner, said it would be a state-of-the-art materials processing facility handling bricks, concrete, clean soil, wood, drywall, glass and electrical wiring.

In addition, the same petitioner is asking to amend an existing special use at a property next door at 630 S. Hicks Road. This would allow the petitioner to expand the scope for the storage, management and leasing of portable toilets.

The business had already started offering the service before village staff said the amendment would be required.

Ido said only about 18 toilets would be stored at the facility at any given time.

Petitioner Ron Tazelaar assured the planning and zoning commission last week the operation would be sanitary and outside of public view.

He said when the toilets come back from a job site, there is no waste in the toilet. The equipment is drained before being brought back to the facility, then wiped down, cleaned and deodorized before they go back out on the street.

The village council meeting starts at 7 p.m.
