Firefighters battle blaze on balcony of Glendale Heights apartment building

Firefighters from several departments battled a blaze Sunday morning that broke out on a third-story balcony and spread into the attic of a Glendale Heights apartment building.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no injuries were reported, authorities said.

Firefighters from the Bloomingdale Fire Protection District called to the 1800 block of Glen Ellyn Road arrived to find flames extending from the building’s balcony to its eaves. The fire progressed rapidly, ultimately spreading throughout the attic space of the building, officials said.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control and limited damage primarily to the attic space, authorities said. Flames did not extend into occupied living areas of the building, they added.
