Early bird discount ends May 6 for Northbrook Park District pool passes

Summer is around the corner and so is the last chance to save on the early bird discount for pool passes at the Northbrook Park District, which ends May 6.

The Northbrook Park District has two seasonal outdoor pools:

Meadowhill Aquatic Center, 1501 Maple Ave., open May 23 to Aug. 9. The facility features four outdoor pools: a lap pool, a children’s water playground, a diving area with three boards, and a pool with tube and body slides.

Northbrook Sports Center Pool, 1730 Pfingsten Road, open June 6 to Sept. 7. The facility features a 25-yard pool with six lanes, a leisure pool, a vortex pool, zero-depth entry, two diving boards, deep water diving pool with a drop slide and a climbing wall.

This year, new perks for pool pass holders are Two-Buck Tuesdays (bring one guest per day for just $2 on Tuesdays) and Member Appreciation Days (an extra hour of open swim 10-11 a.m. on June 7, July 12 and Aug. 2).

The park district’s pools offer a lively and enjoyable atmosphere with trained lifeguards and welcoming staff, Recreation Supervisor Bridgette Sterba said.

“Pools offer a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors, connect with family and friends, and engage in an activity that’s both fun and healthy,” she said.

Special events planned at the Northbrook Park District pools include Chalk the Deck, DJ on Deck, Cardboard Boat Regatta, Teen Night and National Night Out. Courtesy of the Northbrook Park District

The pools host a variety of events throughout the summer, including:

• Chalk the Deck on Fridays June 12, July 10 and Aug. 7 at Sports Center Pool

• DJ on Deck on Saturdays June 20, July 25 and Aug. 8 at Meadowhill Aquatic Center

• Cardboard Boat Regatta on Saturday July 18 at Sports Center Pool (registration required)

• A new Teen Night on Friday, July 25 at Meadowhill Aquatic Center for youth ages 11-14 to enjoy swimming, games, music and pizza (registration required)

• National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at Meadowhill Aquatic Center (in conjunction with Northbrook Police Department)

Additionally, Sensory Friendly Days from 4-6 p.m. on Sundays June 21, July 19 and Aug. 9 offer a calm and comfortable environment with no music or loud noises. Daily admission is $3 for residents and $5 for nonresidents.

When the early bird discount for pool passes kicked off last December, residents Andrew and Ashley Kung were quick to jump at the chance. The couple love to spend summer days at the pool with their daughters Olivia, 3, and Chloe, 1, Andrew Kung said.

“Our usage of the Northbrook Park District since we had a family has grown exponentially, and we are really pleased with the quality of Meadowhill Aquatic Center, especially with the recent renovations,” he said. “There’s even a concession stand, so it’s like a one-stop shop. You can have a full pool day and stay entirely in the facility all day long.”

Another family quick to take advantage of early bird savings for pool passes were residents Kristen and Nate Barajas, whose sons Ben, 7, and Jack, 4, love the water.

“We have had pool passes for the last five years,” Kristen Barajas said. “My husband and I love a sunny afternoon on the pool deck hanging out with our friends watching our kids in the pools. It’s become a tradition that we go at least once a week in the summer.”

Pool passes are on sale now for individuals ages 2-64, seniors ages 65 and up, senior couples, and families (with option of one nanny pass per family). Established in 1927, the mission of the Northbrook Park District is to enhance the community by providing outstanding services, parks and facilities through environmental, social and financial stewardship.
