Trinity Episcopal marks 150-year milestone with new chapel window, community celebration
A milestone 150 years in the making will culminate this weekend as Trinity Episcopal Church invites the community to celebrate its sesquicentennial with a special public event on Sunday, April 26.
The Wheaton church will unveil a newly commissioned stained glass window in its historic 1882 chapel, marking the final highlight of a year-long anniversary celebration honoring its founding in 1875.
The afternoon event, scheduled from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., will feature a chapel open house, guided tours, a reception, and a free concert by Anima Singers.
A legacy rooted in community
Trinity Episcopal Church traces its beginnings to three prominent local families — the Drummonds, Shearsons, and Warracks — who partnered with William Edward McLaren to establish an Episcopal mission in the growing Wheaton community.
Early services were held in a Universalist church before the congregation built its own chapel, completed and dedicated in 1882.
That chapel remains one of Wheaton’s enduring historic landmarks and continues to serve as an active place of worship today.
A window into history
The newly installed stained glass window, designed by David Condon of Colorsmith Stained Glass Studio in Riverside, Illinois, adds a contemporary artistic touch to the historic structure while honoring its long-standing heritage.
Church leaders describe the installation as a “crowning moment” of the anniversary year — a lasting tribute to generations of faith, service, and community connection.
The event will begin with a chapel open house and reception at 1:30 p.m., giving visitors an opportunity to view the new window up close, tour the historic building, and learn about the church’s architectural significance and enjoy refreshments.
Music and celebration
The celebration will conclude at 3 p.m. with a free concert by Anima Singers, known for its high-quality youth performances. The concert is open to the public.
For a century and a half, Trinity Episcopal Church has remained a cornerstone of spiritual and community life in Wheaton and the surrounding suburbs.
The church is located at 130 N. West St. More information is available at trinitywheaton.org.
