Lake in the Hills police arrest man on multiple gun charges

An anonymous tip led Lake in the Hills police to arrest a man for multiple firearms violations.

Jeremy R. Crutcher, 48, of Richmond, is facing felony charges, including two counts of possession of a stolen firearm, five counts of unlawful possession of weapons or ammunition by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm without a serial number.

Acting on the tip, police stopped Crutcher in his white Ford pickup truck near Algonquin and Crystal Lake roads shortly before noon Wednesday, according to a news release from the Lake in the Hills Police Department.

Authorities say that Crutcher consented to a vehicle search. The officers discovered that he was a felon driving on a revoked license and was unlawfully possessing ammunition and fireworks, according to the news release.

Officials said the tip had indicated that firearms with defaced serial numbers were kept in the suspect’s toolbox, which he said was at work.

Police executed a search warrant there and confiscated two stolen firearms and a third firearm with a defaced serial number, according to the news release.

Crutcher was transferred to the McHenry County jail.
