Police: Vernon Hills man was trying to break into home
A 36-year-old Vernon Hills man is facing multiple charges after police said he tried to break into a Green Oaks home early Thursday morning and then resisted arrest.
According to a Lake County sheriff’s office news release, Grant Manning is charged with unlawful restraint, criminal damage to property, aggravated assault to a peace officer and resisting a peace officer.
Authorities were called to a home on the 1900 block of Kenton Lane in Green Oaks at about 1:30 a.m. when residents reported someone trying to break into the home.
According to the release, Manning used his vehicle to block the residents’ vehicle in the garage to prevent escape, then he is accused of shattering a window in the front of the house to gain entry. Residents told authorities they believed Manning made it inside, but then retreated to his vehicle where he attempted to crash it into the residence.
Deputies tried to calm Manning, who was covered in blood from the broken window, when they arrived, but said he was “aggressive and uncooperative.” Deputies used a Taser to ultimately subdue him.
He was transported to a hospital for treatment of his wounds and then taken to jail where he is awaiting his first court hearing.
