Learn about faith in Ukraine and Middle East at Gary UMC in Wheaton

Learn what it’s like to have Christian faith in Ukraine and the Middle East at Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton on Wednesday, April 15.

American believers can learn more about seeking justice and practicing hope from Christians in places like Ukraine, Lebanon and Palestine.

The event, “Living on the Underside of Empire: Lessons from Ukraine and the Middle East” will include speakers from Scholar Leaders, a not-for-profit ministry that encourages and enables Christian leaders around the world. It will begin at 7 p.m. at the church, 224 N. Main St.

Christopher M. Hays, Evan Hunter and Evelyn Reynolds will share what faithfulness requires on the underside of empire. Register for the free event at garychurch.org.

The church has vibrant music, kids, youth and adult ministries, plus opportunities for local, national and global missions. It offers worship at 9 and 11:11 a.m. In-between services, there’s Sunday school for all ages, a coffee fellowship hour, plus the chapel is available for prayer and reflection.

During Holy Week, the church offers 9and 11:11 a.m. worship with palms on Palm Sunday, March 29.

On Maundy Thursday, April 2, the service will include a soup supper and worship from 6 to 7:30 p.m. On Good Friday, April 3, worship will begin at 7 p.m. with congregants leaving in relative darkness.

On Easter Sunday, April 5, a sunrise service will begin at 6:30 a.m. on the church’s lawn on Main Street. Traditional Easter worship at 9 and 11:11 a.m., with an Easter egg hunt in Memorial Park at 10:15 a.m.
