Schaumburg High School raises $82,480 during St. Baldrick’s event

Schaumburg High School’s St. Baldrick’s celebration on St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday raised the spirits of the school community as well as $82,480 to battle childhood cancers.

In addition to the signature activity of students and staff members getting their heads shaved for the cause, there was also a pie-in-the-face fundraiser in which students could donate to pie their favorite teachers.

Two fundraisers collided at Schaumburg High School's St. Baldrick's event Tuesday when Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 Superintendent Judith Campbell hit Principal Tom Mocon in the face with a pie after he'd already been fastened to the wall by a sufficient number of tape strips bought by students. Another fundraiser allowed students to buy strips of tape for an ultimately successful attempt to hold Principal Tom Mocon to the wall. He then received a pie in the face thrown by Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 Superintendent Judith Campbell.

In addition to dance performances and other activities in the gym, there was a recognition of “Honor Families” of students who had become cancer-free or passed away.

Various staff members were also “knighted” for their multiple years of involvement with St. Baldrick’s.

The school has held a St. Baldrick’s event semi-annually since 2010, and has raised more than $750,000 over just the past six years, officials said.
