Second teen charged in connection with deadly Ingleside shooting
Authorities have charged a second man in connection with an October drive-by shooting that killed a 19-year-old man in Ingleside.
Oscar E. Arteaga, 18, of Round Lake Beach, was arrested Thursday and charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owners Identification card, according to Lake County sheriff’s office.
Arteaga is scheduled to appear in a Lake County courtroom this afternoon for a detention hearing.
The charges stem from the deadly shooting of Alejandro Castaneda, also from Round Lake Beach, authorities said.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a report of shots fired at about 11:15 p.m. Oct. 10 on the 35700 block of North Wilson Road. They arrived to find Castaneda in the driveway with a gunshot wound to his chest. He died at the scene, authorities said.
Yurem Mejia-Gomez, 18, of Round Lake Beach was charged last year with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm. His case is scheduled to be in court April 27, according to Lake County court records.
According to authorities, the victim was attending a birthday party at a home when a group arrived and an argument ensued between them and other guests. The group left, then drove by the residence and opened fire, striking Castaneda who was standing in the driveway at the time, police said.
