Addison teen charged with fleeing in a stolen car
An Addison boy has been charged with trying to elude police while driving a stolen car.
The 14-year-old boy is facing felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle and felony aggravated fleeing and eluding, according to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.
He appeared in court Wednesday morning, where a judge released him on home detention.
The news release said that around 1 a.m. Wednesday, an Oak Brook police officer saw a Toyota stopped over the white boundary line at a red light at Route 83 and Hodges Road. The officer tried to pull the vehicle over. The Toyota stopped on the ramp to eastbound Butterfield Road, then drove off at speeds reaching 70 mph.
The teen ignored red lights, according to the news release. The police officer stopped chasing, but continued to follow the vehicle’s path through a residential area. The officer found the Toyota abandoned with tire and wheel damage.
The boy was found in a shed in the backyard of a home in the 800 block of Saylor Avenue in Elmhurst.
The boy’s next court date is April 9.
