Child hurt in early morning house fire in Island Lake Wednesday

A child was transported to a hospital with smoke inhalation following a house fire early Wednesday morning in Island Lake.

Wauconda Fire District officials said they were notified of the blaze at about 2:30 a.m.

The fire was largely contained to a basement bedroom where it started, officials said. It was extinguished within 15 minutes.

No other injuries were reported. The child’s condition is unknown.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage was estimated at $100,000. The house was rendered uninhabitable.
