DoodleBug Workshop offers an adult day program for special needs community

DoodleBug Workshop, based in downtown Wheaton, is expanding its services. Beginning in June, a new Adult Day Program for the special needs community will begin.

Adults, ages 18 or older, will enjoy a full range of activities while their parents or caregivers receive some respite time. Programming is planned for Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The number of days a person attends is flexible.

Sarah Starke, executive director of DoodleBug Workshop, said: “Since 2018, we have offered vocational classes in woodworking as well as craft experiences for groups who serve people with disabilities.”

“We see the need for a substantial weekday adult day program that offers a group setting promoting inclusion, independence and friendship.”

Programming will begin in June and includes fun and educational projects in the Workshop, recreational outings, exploration in the community, physical activities that encourage exercise, library visits, and much more.

DoodleBug Workshop is taking reservations for Day Program participation and is looking for engaging and energetic staff.
