Two sent to hospital, home uninhabitable after fire

Two people were sent to a hospital and a cat was rescued from a fire that left a home in far Northwest suburban Wonder Lake uninhabitable Saturday, authorities said.

Crews from the McHenry Township Fire Protection District responding to the 2000 block of Winterberry Trail at about 4:25 p.m. found heavy fire coming from the attached garage of a two-story house.

Residents escaped before firefighters arrived, and two people taken to the hospital were in good condition, authorities said. No firefighters were injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. A damage estimate was unavailable Sunday.
