Teens arrested after chase through Aurora in stolen car, with gun
Two 17-year-old people were arrested late Friday night after a car chase in Aurora.
It happened around 11 p.m. on the near-east side, police said in a news release. Officers were told a blue Kia Sportage stolen in a neighboring town was driving south on Farnsworth Avenue.
They and Kane County Sheriff’s deputies tried to stop the Kia, but it kept going, ending when the Kia became stuck in a field near Fifth and Hill avenues.
One of the teens, from Bensenville, was arrested right away. Police said they found a loaded .40-caliber handgun that had been reported as stolen in Round Lake Beach.
The second teen was found, after a search by police, deputies, police dogs and drones, in the 300 block of Kendall Street.
The Bensenville teen is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated fleeing and eluding and resisting a peace officer.
The Addison teen is charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and resisting a peace officer. Police say he is a documented gang member,
Both were taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center, to await a hearing to determine if they should remain in custody.
