Garage destroyed, house spared in Mount Prospect fire
A fire engulfing the detached garage of a Mount Prospect home was brought under control by first responders Saturday afternoon.
The Mount Prospect Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 200 block of North William Street at approximately 1:54 p.m. to find a residence’s detached garage engulfed in flame, with fire quickly spreading towards the house.
The fire was stopped before it could cause significant damage to the house, and all of the residents were able to safely evacuate with no reported injuries. The damages are estimated to reach around $75,000.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, an official release from the fire department says it is believed to be accidental in nature.
“If it weren’t for the quick calls to 911 from neighbors and the quick response of Tower 13,” said Fire Chief Tom Wang, “the house would have suffered much more damage.”
