Another 9th Congressional District candidate is putting campaign ad on TV
Bushra Amiwala is the latest Democratic candidate in the largely suburban 9th Congressional District to put a campaign ad on cable TV.
Amiwala’s 30-second commercial also is running on streaming services and digital platforms, a representative said.
Called “Yes,” the ad — loaded with fast cuts and visual effects, both usual techniques for a campaign commercial — features Amiwala speaking directly to viewers about her opposition to immigration enforcement efforts and donations from corporate special interests, among other topics.
Early in the video, she tears a photograph of President Donald Trump in half.
The ad can be viewed online at youtube.com/watch?v=7LzZJR-haPI.
The campaign wouldn’t reveal the cost of the ad buy.
Amiwala, a Skokie school board member, is one of 16 Democrats running for the nomination in the March 17 primary for the 9th District seat. Others include Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss, former journalist and internet personality Kat Abughazaleh of Chicago, state Sen. Laura Fine of Glenview and Wilmette resident Phil Andrew. All four of those candidates also have released TV ads.
Four Republicans also are running. None has released TV spots.
Incumbent Democrat Jan Schakowsky isn’t seeking reelection.
The 9th District includes parts of Cook, Lake and McHenry counties.
Early voting starts Feb. 5.
