Mount Prospect police arrest homeless man on sexual assault charges
A 35-year-old homeless man is facing sexual assault and battery charges stemming from an attack on a Mount Prospect woman Jan. 17.
Mount Prospect police charged Andres Morales Gonzalez Wednesday after he was released from a hospital.
Police said Morales Gonzalez was unknown to the woman he is accused of attacking just after 12:30 a.m. on the 100 block of North Main Street last Saturday.
Police said the victim was returning home when Morales Gonzalez tackled her from behind in the driveway. Investigators said Morales Gonzalez slammed the woman’s head into the pavement multiple times and began strangling and sexually assaulting her.
Family members heard the woman’s screams and came to her aid and called police. When police arrived, a family member was wrestling with Morales Gonzalez and he was placed under arrest.
The victim and Morales Gonzalez were both transported to hospitals for treatment.
Morales Gonzalez is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse, aggravated battery involving strangulation, and unlawful restraint, all felonies.
Thursday he was ordered detained until his next court date, Feb. 13 at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
