Gary UMC in Wheaton to offer class on social responsibility

Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton is offering the class, “Social Responsibility” on Sundays, Feb. 1-15. The Rev. Howard Thurman (1899-1981) was one of the leading religious thinkers of 20th century America and was a mentor to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

In this class at 10:10 a.m., participants will explore some of Thurman’s thoughts and the implications for us today, based on the book, “The Inner Life and Social Responsibility.” No reading required. The Rev. Dwight Stewart will lead the discussion.

The church at 224 N. Main St. has vibrant music, kids, youth and adult ministries, plus opportunities for local, national and global missions. The church offers worship at 9 and 11:11 a.m. In-between services, there’s Sunday school for all ages, a coffee fellowship hour, plus the chapel is available for prayer and reflection.
