Man charged with recklessly firing gun in to neighbor’s apartment

A Glendale Heights man is accused of firing a gun through the wall of his apartment and into a room next door where four children were sleeping.

Kyle Lucki, 34, of the 600 block of East Fullerton Avenue, is charged with one felony count of reckless discharge of a firearm.

Authorities say that around 10:38 p.m. Thursday, Lucki was handling a CZE-09 9 mm pistol when it fired. The bullet went through the wall just above where one of the children was lying, and lodged in a mattress. Drywall dust was found on the child’s neck.

The children were 4 to 14 years old.

Nobody was injured.

Lucki had a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification card and a concealed carry license.

Prosecutors requested that Lucki remain in jail pretrial, but DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden decided Lucki did not pose a real and present threat to the safety of any specific person or the community. He ordered Lucki to have no contact with the children or their mother.

Dieden also ordered Lucki to turn over all his guns to the Glendale Heights police.

In their petition to detain Lucki, prosecutors wrote that Lucki told police he kept the gun on a nightstand in his bedroom, and that he was trying to clear the ammunition magazine because it was jammed. The petition states he told police he did not remember if his finger was on the gun’s trigger.

Lucki’s next court appearance is Feb. 2.
