Learn about forest preserve district’s efforts to raise Hine's emeralds, mussels

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County will showcase its work to support freshwater mussels and federally endangered Hine’s emerald dragonflies during tours of the agency’s Urban Stream Research Center.

Situated on the campus of Blackwell Forest Preserve near Warrenville, the research center is typically closed to the public.

But the district will open the doors for a behind-the-scenes look at aquatic species recovery efforts Saturday, Jan. 17. Visitors will also get a chance to see some of the crayfish, insects and fish that navigate DuPage waterways.

The open house is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tours will start every 30 minutes. The cost is $5 per person. To register, call (630) 933-7248 or visit dupageforest.org.
