Daily Herald photo contest winners for October 2025
Mike Weimer glides smoothly into first place in the October amateur photo contest with his alluring photo of a Great Blue Heron taking off from the Fox River. The St. Charles resident writes, “I love the position of the wings, the rim-lighting, and the water splash at its feet as the bird rises up from the water to find a better fishing spot in the river. (It had no luck at this one.)”
In the second spot is Bonnie Graham’s touching photo of her daughter and the dog enjoying a quiet moment. The Lombard resident writes, “I love this photo of my daughter, Casey, and dog Hugo sitting on the dock at sunrise. So peaceful, just the two of them in their own thoughts.”
Diane Kacprowicz took this striking photo while walking along a harbor on a bright, cool, clear and still morning during a cruise stop to Isafjordur, Iceland. The Schaumburg resident writes, “Draw a horizontal line through the middle and you can see the amazing reflection of the mountains, buildings and boats. It looks like glass instead of water. When have you seen a mountain in the water?”
In the Halloween spirit, Kelly Dolan of Buffalo Grove took a photo of a spider web glistening in the sunlight during her morning walk at the Buffalo Creek Forest Preserve in Buffalo Grove.
