Wang sworn in as new Mount Prospect fire chief

Mount Prospect’s new fire chief, Tom Wang, took his oath of office this week, while the village board paid tribute to outgoing Chief John Dolan.

Wang is a 22-year veteran of the department. He noted he is a first-generation American and an only child and thanked his late parents.

“Above all, I’m truly honored and humbled to serve the people who matter the most, the residents of this great town,” he said.

Wang is also on the faculty at Harper College and is an assistant soccer coach there.

Village Manager Michael Cassady praised Dolan for his more than 30 years with the Mount Prospect fire department at Tuesday’s village board meeting.

“On behalf of your work family, we are very grateful for your contributions,” he said.

“Every chief's goal, or at least hope, is to leave the department just a little bit better than he found it,” Dolan said.

In addition, Battalion Chief Joseph Vena was promoted to deputy chief, while Lieutenant Bradley Bocox was promoted to battalion chief and firefighter/paramedic Michael Hayes was promoted to lieutenant.
