Crime thriller ‘M’ headlines Oktoberfestival screening with Lake Park Film Society

Lake Park High School's Film Appreciation Society invites the community to the Oktoberfestival!, a collaboration event with the Lake Park German Exchange Program.

This special film screening will showcase classic German Expressionism in the 1931 film “M” (original German title “Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder”), a psychological suspense masterpiece that follows the path of a serial killer.

The free event will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the Lake Park High School West Campus Auditorium, 500 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. in Roselle. Run time for the film is 1 hour, 39 minutes.

The film, directed by Fritz Lang, is shown in German with English subtitles and stars Hollywood legend Peter Lorre as Hans Beckert, a dastardly child murderer. The innovative sound and visuals of this film were groundbreaking and had a significant influence on future filmmakers such as Orson Welles and Alfred Hitchcock.

Community film buffs are invited to attend the cinematic presentation and stay for an in-depth panel discussion regarding the background and history of the film. Plus, free popcorn, movie trivia, and German themed prizes will be awarded.

The Lake Park Film Appreciation Society aims to engage the community in the presentation, exploration, interpretation, and critical discussion of classic cinema. For information, visit lphs.org.
