Who had the area’s top prep football performances in Week 3?

Running backs are rising to the occasion.

Three weeks into the prep football season, we’re starting to see some brilliant performances. You’d expect games like this from Warren senior Aaron Stewart, who rolled up another 200 rushing yards last week, but now we’re seeing breakout players emerge from all corners of the suburbs.

This edition of the High Five looks at the area’s top prep football performances from Week 3.

5. Matthew Kaput, RB-LB, Buffalo Grove

Behind the two-way play of Kaput, the Bison notched their first win of the season with a 27-24 victory over Deerfield.

The 6-2, 210 junior carried the ball 37 times for 278 yards and four touchdowns including a 76-yarder as Buffalo Grove built a 27-10 lead. He also caught two passes for 65 yards.

On defense, Kaput had eight tackles including two solos.

4. Nathan Kutella, RB-DB, Conant

The Cougars beat Vernon Hills 21-0 to break a 15-game losing streak, thanks to a dominant overall game from Kutella.

The senior rushed for 194 of the team’s 324 ground yards and scored two of Conant’s touchdowns. He had just as big an impact on defense, where he notched eight tackles in the Cougars’ first shutout since 2022.

3. Dillan Davis, LB, Lakes

The 5-9, 190-pound senior had two tackles for loss in a 20-18 Northern Lake County Conference victory over Grant, giving him the program record for career TFLs.

Davis — leading a unit that blocked an extra point, stopped a late two-point conversion and held at its 13-yard line in the final seconds — piled up 14 total tackles. He also had a sack, quarterback pressure and an interception.

2. Max Serbick, RB, Wheaton North

With their starting quarterback out with an injury, the Falcons leaned heavily on Serbick in a 30-20 DuKane Conference win over Lake Park.

The 5-7, 187-pound senior carried the ball 48 times — including 21 straight plays — for 303 yards and touchdowns of 19, 6 and 21 yards.

The Falcons chewed up massive amounts of clock with Serbick, who boosted the lead to 23-14 at the start of the second half by capping a seven-minute drive with a touchdown.

1. Aidan Crawley, QB, Stevenson

The 5-10, 180-pound senior quarterback, a third-year starter, was electric in a 31-6 North Suburban Conference win over Libertyville.

Crawley completed 13 of 18 passes for 321 yards and touchdowns of 58 and 62 yards. He also carried the ball 13 times for 76 yards and two scores.
