Central 301 to do nationwide search for new superintendent
Central Unit District 301 in Burlington has begun a nationwide search for a new superintendent.
The school board has hired School Exec Connect to conduct the search after interviewing five companies.
School Exec Connect will develop a leadership profile, including using an online survey.
The district has created a superintendent search webpage for updates, timelines, and community engagement opportunities.
Candidates interested in applying can find additional details and submit their materials directly through School Exec Connect’s portal.
Former Superintendent Esther Mongan was placed on leave, then resigned Feb. 3. A separation agreement called for paying her salary and benefits through June 30.
She became superintendent July 2023.
More than 650 people signed a change.org petition in November 2024 calling for her to be fired, citing “a culture of retaliation and fear,” as well as criticism of student performance, teacher retention, and transparency.
She and the district were involved in a civil rights issue in fall 2024.
The district refused to let a Central High School student use his state-issued accessible parking placard to park in reserved spaces at the school because he did not have a school-issued parking pass.
