Elgin man charged after fleeing four-vehicle crash Tuesday night in Crystal Lake

An Elgin man is charged with multiple felonies after authorities said he caused a four-vehicle crash late Tuesday in Crystal Lake, then fled the scene.

Crystal Lake police said 35-year-old Deondrae L. Clements was speeding west on Three Oaks Road in a Mazda SUV at about 9 p.m. when he drove through a red light at the Route 31 intersection, struck two sedans and collided head-on with a SUV.

Police said Clements fled the scene after the collisions, but was later apprehended in East Dundee, where he was transported to a hospital with minor injuries and ultimately arrested.

The drivers of the two sedans suffered minor injuries as well and were transported to hospitals for treatment. The driver of the SUV suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital. The SUV driver’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said. Their conditions were not released.

Clements is charged with failure to report an accident involving personal injury, aggravated reckless driving causing great bodily harm and driving while license suspended or revoked.
