Woodstock launches Midweek Matinee film series
The Woodstock Opera House is hosting the Midweek Matinee film series, a monthly movie experience celebrating classic and beloved films on the big screen in the heart of Woodstock Square. Screenings will take place one Wednesday each month at 1 p.m., offering audiences a perfect midweek escape into the magic of the movies, at the theater, 121 Van Buren St. in Woodstock. Tickets are $8.
The series invites moviegoers to relive unforgettable performances, timeless storytelling, and the charm of old-school cinema.
Upcoming titles in the Midweek Matinee series include:
• July 16 — “American Graffiti” (1973). Cruise back to 1962 with George Lucas’s coming-of-age classic starring Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss, Candy Clark, and Cindy Williams.
• Aug. 20 — “On Golden Pond” (1981). A moving family drama starring Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda in Oscar-winning roles.
• Sept. 17 — “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981). Harrison Ford stars as Indiana Jones in this thrilling Steven Spielberg adventure.
• Oct. 15 — “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” (1971). Gene Wilder shines in this whimsical, candy-colored musical fantasy.
• Nov. 19 — “To Kill a Mockingbird” (1962). A powerful adaptation of Harper Lee’s novel, starring Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch and Mary Badham as Scout.
• Dec. 17 — “White Christmas” (1954). A festive Technicolor treasure packed with song, dance, and holiday cheer, starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen.
• Jan. 21 — “The King’s Speech” (2010). The inspiring true story of King George VI’s journey to overcome his stammer. Starring Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, Geoffrey Rush, and Jennifer Ehle.
• Feb. 18 — “Pillow Talk” (1959). Romantic comedy at its finest with Doris Day, Rock Hudson, Thelma Ritter and Tony Randall.
• March 18 — “The Bucket List” (2007). Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman take audiences on a heartfelt comedy adventure, directed by Rob Reiner.
• April 15 — “Casablanca” (1942). The ultimate World War II romance, starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, Claude Rains, Peter Lorre and Sidney Greenstreet, and directed by Michael Curtiz.
• May 20 — “It’s Complicated” (2009). A modern love story written and directed by Nancy Meyers and starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and Steve Martin.
Tickets are available in advance or at the door for $8 per person. Guests are encouraged to arrive early for the best seating and to enjoy the ambiance of a classic moviegoing experience.
