Curator joins Glenview History Center
The Glenview History Center has announced the hiring of a full-time museum curator. Riley Ellison began work May 5. As curator, Ellison will guide the History Center in activating Glenview’s rich history through engaging exhibits, dynamic programming and meaningful community outreach.
Ellison is a graduate of Marquette University and has worked as a museum educator for the Midway Village and Museum. She also has experience working at Naper Settlement and the Pabst Mansion.
“This is an exciting new chapter for GHC,” said Susan Johns, President of the Glenview History Center Board of Directors. “Riley brings an energy and enthusiasm that will help the History Center engage the community so that our local history can be brought to life as well as preserved.”
The hiring is a result of the partnership the History Center has with the Village of Glenview and the Glenview Public Library. Under an intergovernmental agreement adopted in February 2023, Ellison will be a library employee and report to Kimberly Schlarman, Genealogy and Local History Supervisor.
Ellison begins her job as the Village completes almost three years of major repairs and renovations to the History Center’s two facilities: the Farmhouse Museum and the Hibbard Library. These capital improvements were essential for GHC to continue operations and serve the public.
In her capacity as curator, Ellison will help the Board of Directors’ mission for GHC to be a dedicated resource for Glenview history and to honor and engage with the diverse stories that enrich our understanding of our community. To that end, she will help plan, install and manage exhibits, maintain the database, represent GHC in outreach efforts, provide reference services to patrons, and oversee collection and storage priorities.
