18-year-old charged with trying to kill elderly relative

An 18-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, accused of attacking an elderly relative in Big Rock.

Koda Uebel, of the 9000 block of Chicago Road, Waterman, Illinois, also is charged with aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery to a peace officer, both felonies, and misdemeanor domestic battery, resisting a peace officer and possession/consumption of alcohol by a minor.

He is accused of beating 71-year-old Deborah Uebel. According to court records, she sustained a brain bleed and facial disfigurement.

Kane County sheriff’s deputies responded at 12:06 a.m. to the 300 block of Lincoln Avenue in Big Rock for a report of a disturbance in progress, a news release said.

Deputies, looking through a locked front door, saw Uebel punching, slapping and kicking a woman, and heard him threaten to kill her, according to the release.

They broke in to intervene. Uebel then attacked the deputies, and deputies used a stun weapon to try to subdue him. Uebel bit a deputy, according to the release.

Uebel also is accused of strangling the woman.

He will have a pretrial detention hearing Thursday in Kane County court.
