Award-winning author Lee Hawkins signing books Sunday in Vernon Hills

Award-winning journalist and author Lee Hawkins will appear for a book talk and signing featuring his memoir “I Am Nobody’s Slave: How Uncovering My Family’s History Set Me Free” from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Barbara’s Bookstore, inside Hawthorn Mall, 102 Hawthorn Center, Vernon Hills.

The memoir blends investigative reporting, genetic genealogy and memoir to trace four centuries of Hawkins’ family story from slavery through Jim Crow to modern America.

All books presented for signature must be purchased in store or online at Barbara’s Bookstore. Hawkins is a 2022 Pulitzer Prize finalist who spent 19 years at the Wall Street Journal as reporter, editor and on-camera host.
