Northbrook Park District hosts Kids’ Fishing Derby May 17
Children and teens are invited to reel in some fun May 17 at the Northbrook Park District’s Kids’ Fishing Derby, which this year will feature a special guest.
The annual free event at Wood Oaks Green Park will award prizes for the largest fish, smallest fish and most fish caught at Lake Shermerville.
State Sen. Julie Morrison, who loves to fish, will attend the event and kick off the race to catch and win prizes.
“One of my favorite memories growing up is fishing with my family at the nearby river,” Morrison said. “I’m grateful for events like these that encourage children and families to disconnect from their screens and reconnect with nature and each other.”
Recreation Supervisor Jeremy Goedeke said the park district is always excited to offer this great event for the community.
“Whether you are experienced at fishing, or this is your first time, this event offers a memorable experience for all ages.”
Fishing poles and bait will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Fishing licenses are not needed for children, but are required for ages 16 and up.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. May 17 at Wood Oaks Green Park, 1150 Sanders Road in Northbrook. The event runs until noon.
This year, families can avoid the lines and register online with code 24952 by May 15. Advance registration comes with a special gift.
