Schaumburg Library to celebrate pop culture locally with its own Comic Con April 26
Celebrating comic book and fantasy film culture doesn’t require a trip to San Diego or even to Chicago’s McCormick Place.
The Schaumburg Township District Library is making it much easier with its own Comic Con from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at its Central Library at 130 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg.
An afternoon of fun for the entire family is promised for fans of comics, superheroes, science fiction and pop culture, including gamers of all ages.
The event’s popular Artist Alley will feature local comic book artists, and there will be photo opportunities with favorite characters.
Other activities include a Jedi Academy, costume show, drawing classes, escape rooms, crafts, airbrush tattoos and more. Costumes are encouraged, allowing guests to demonstrate their creativity by dressing as their favorite characters.
Children who attend can learn to “master the Force” with Andrew Trygstad, a professional entertainer, skilled fencer, singer, and juggler. Attendees will get their very own lightsaber crafted from a pool noodle, allowing them to join the event’s Jedi Academy.
Similarly themed events coming up at the library on Thursday, April 24 — just before Comic Con — include “Advanced Video Editing: Superhero Effects” for 9- to 14-year-olds from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Central Tech Lab, and “Geek Out Trivia” for adults from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Central Rasmussen Room.
