‘A fun way to do some good’: SALUTE, Inc. puts out a call for volunteers
As 2025 gets into full swing, Palatine-based SALUTE, Inc. is putting out a call for volunteers to maximize the effects of their efforts to support more veterans than ever before.
The organization is looking for volunteers to work at events throughout the year, including those SALUTE plans and hosts as well as events hosted by other groups that raise money on behalf of SALUTE.
“When SALUTE first began, we hosted a 5K/10K event to raise funds, and we found an incredible community of runners that wanted to support our mission,” said SALUTE, Inc. executive director Mary Beth Beiersdorf. “While we have expanded our fundraising efforts, we continue to host and participate in local racing events throughout the year, ranging from 0.26-mile micro marathons to having a team of charity athletes in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.”
Runners raise funds for SALUTE in exchange for training and guaranteed race entry to key events like the Chicago Marathon. The organization also receives donations from racing events in exchange for providing volunteers.
“We’re always looking for volunteers to pour water, or in some cases beer, at local racing events,” said Beiersdorf. “It’s a fun way to do some good, be motivated by incredible athletes, and bond with your friends or coworkers. If you’re new to the community, it’s also a fun way to meet new people and get involved.”
This year, SALUTE needs volunteers to work their annual run and walk May 24 at Lake Arlington, the June 28 Stars and Stripes Half Marathon in Hoffman Estates, and the Sept. 27 Rosetober 5K in Rosemont.
“Many times local businesses or organizations will create an outing for a group of employees or members to come and volunteer as a team building experience,” Beiersdorf said. “It can also provide an opportunity for students looking to gain service hours or create bonds for athletic teams that come out and work together.”
