Young anglers get first dibs on trout fishing at Grove Lake in Wood Dale

Seven-year-old Sloane Kalina was all smiles as her dad, Derek, helped her cast a line into Grove Lake at the Wood Dale Grove Forest Preserve Saturday during the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s “Trout Fishing for Kids” event.

Kids ages 15 and younger got to fish for rainbow trout that was freshly stocked. The event offered kids a great opportunity to fish the 9-acre lake before the state’s official spring trout season opener on April 5, thus increasing their chances of catching a fish.

“What makes this event special is it gives young anglers a chance to experience the excitement of fishing in a fun and supportive setting,” said Dan Grigas, fisheries ecologist for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. “Families can enjoy a morning outdoors, make lasting memories, and take in the beauty of Grove Lake.”
