Incumbents deserve appreciation, vote

I was overjoyed when my son moved his family back to Elk Grove Village, grateful that my grandchildren now benefit from an excellent education in District 54. It does my heart good to see that the high standards offered to my children decades ago have been maintained, no small task. I recently voiced my gratitude to Nicholas Scipione and thanked him for his work on our school board. I told him how impressed I am by the quality of teaching and by our school principals who go above and beyond.

I credit current school board members for safeguarding our schools and appreciate them for keeping District 54 highly rated. Four of these members are candidates running in the April 1 election to keep their places on the board: Bob Kaplan, Jim Pye, Debbie Schmidt and Nicholas Scipione. I applaud these individuals for their extensive efforts invested in ensuring exceptional education.

Having taken advantage of the welcome to attend school board meetings, I have been impressed by the collaboration among members as well as by their willingness to address concerns voiced by the public. A fifth candidate for the district 54 school Board, A’Seret Dokubo, is not currently a board member. I’m convinced that it’s important to allow those four running to remain on the board and essential that they be given the opportunity to build on their accomplishments.

Kaplan, Pye, Schmidt and Scipione’s’ commitments to our students and community have been tested and proven. We’re lucky these four have signed on again to make the sacrifice of their time for the success of our children. They deserve not only our vote but our appreciation for the positive impact they have made on education.
