Editor leads library presentation on media, trust and truth
Jim Slusher, the Daily Herald’s managing editor for opinion and administration, will be at the Mount Prospect Public Library Tuesday for a presentation on the News Media, Truth and Trust.
The session about navigating the shifting media landscape and concerns over fake news begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, in Meeting Room A on the first floor of the library, 10 S. Emerson St., Mount Prospect.
The presentation, followed by a Q&A, will address the need to find trusted news sources that cover all sides and tips on identifying false or misleading reports.
Slusher, a 1974 Western Illinois University graduate, worked in print and broadcast journalism in Iowa, Illinois, Michigan and California before returning to Illinois in 1989 to take charge of the Daily Herald’s copy desk operations. He went on to hold a variety of supervisory positions before being named editor of the Opinion page in 2010.
In 1999, his weekly column “Letter to Readers” debuted in the Daily Herald with a mission to build a more personal relationship between the newspaper and its readers and provide explanations for philosophies and thoughts behind the newspaper’s journalistic decisions. Marking 25 years of the column, Eckhartz Press published last September a topics-oriented compilation titled “To Nudge the World: Conversations, Community and the Role of Local Newspapers.”
Slusher will have copies available to sign for purchase at the library presentation.
