Why are you running for this office? Is there a particular issue that motivates you?
I have decided to run for this office because of my interest in the students, teachers, and schools of District 128. I believe focus needs to be put back on these foundations of our community for the betterment of our future.
What is the role of the school board in setting and monitoring the curriculum?
I feel the role of the school board is to establish a strong focus of rigor on the curriculum that will prepare our students for future success. Equally important to me is the establishment of a credible and consistent grading system.
Are there curriculum issues within the district that you feel need particular attention from the board?
Of particular interest to me is the build out of a robust and operational Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to aid all our students outside the classroom to access our curriculum.
How do you view your role in confronting policy or curriculum controversies: provide leadership even if unpopular, give a voice to constituents — even ones with whom you disagree, or defer to state authorities?
I view my role in confronting policy or curriculum controversies as one that displays authentic leadership in all instances even if unpopular. I will be an active listener who offers voices the opportunity to be heard. And I will be certain to make decisions in accordance with all applicable laws.
Describe your experience working in a group setting to determine policy. What is your style in such a setting to reach an agreement and manage school district policy? Explain how you think that will be effective in producing effective actions and decisions for your school board.
My work experience lends to a style of servant leadership with authenticity at the forefront. This manner allows for all stakeholders to have a voice in policy development that affords the greatest good for the greatest number.
What is your assessment of the school district's diversity and equity efforts? Do you support the continuation or enhancement of such programs, or would you rather see them diminished? Please explain your reasoning.
I am a strong proponent of inclusion due to my faith. I believe that all people are welcome no matter who they are or where they are at on their life’s journey. This position should exist whether there is a program or not.
What makes you the best candidate for the job?
I am a strategic thinker who works to create a vision for the future. I am also a promoter of people through support and encouragement for their empowerment and success.
What’s one good idea you have to better your district that no one is talking about yet?
The one good idea that I hold to better the district is to emphasize education over ideology by soliciting feedback from teachers and students in the classroom as well as the parents.
