League of Women Voters to host candidate forum in Sugar Grove
The League of Women Voters of Central Kane County is hosting a five-part candidate forum in Sugar Grove, featuring candidates running in contested races for the offices of Sugar Grove Fire Protection District Trustee, Waubonsee Community College Trustee, Sugar Grove Village Trustee, Sugar Grove Village President, and Kaneland Unit District 302 board member. The consolidated election is set for Tuesday, April 1.
The League is partnering with the Sugar Grove Public Library and Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce for the Feb. 24 forum.
It will begin at 6 p.m. in the Academic and Professional Center (APC Building) at Waubonsee Community College, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive in Sugar Grove.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early. Doors will open to the public at 5:45 p.m. The event also will be livestreamed and available for later viewing on the websites of the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County (lwvckcil.com) and the Illinois Voter Guide (illinoisvoterguide.org).
All candidates will be allowed time at the beginning and at the end of their respective segments for opening and closing statements. During each segment, candidates will respond to audience questions submitted during registration and throughout the event. Audience members’ questions will be reviewed by trained League members for clarity and relevance and will be asked by the League moderator.
The forum will be divided into five segments, by office. The segments are outlined below in the sequence planned for the live event. The invited candidates are listed in alphabetical order, by last name.
• Sugar Grove Fire Protection District trustee (6-year term): David Blankenship, Timothy Cicero and Susan Cuomo
• Waubonsee Community College District 516 trustee (6-year term): Greg Dobbins, Daniel Jaquez and Tina Medlin Willson
• Sugar Grove Village Board trustee (4-year term): Nora London, Michael Roskopf, Anthony “Tony” Speciale and James “Jamie” White
• Sugar Grove Village President (4-year term): Jennifer Konen and Susan Stillwell
• Kaneland Unit District 302 board (4-year term): Addam Gonzales, Aaron Lawler, Jennifer Simmons and Scott Stalcup

Lackman continued, “The League of Women Voters is nonpartisan. We never support or endorse candidates or political parties, and we work hard to ensure our candidate forums are conducted in a fair and impartial manner. Campaign signs, literature and paraphernalia are prohibited at League candidate forums.”
