Schaumburg, Hanover Park project wins public works award

Schaumburg’s Springinsguth Stream Corridor Restoration Project has been named Public Works Project of the Year in the Environmental category by the American Public Works Association Chicago Metro Chapter, village officials announced.

The project, a joint effort between the Schaumburg and Hanover Park, tackled flooding and erosion along the West Branch of the DuPage River. Key improvements included: reducing stream bank erosion; excavating and cleaning the Springinsguth culvert; creating additional flood plain storage at Olde Salem Park; improving stream banks to enhance stormwater flow; and realigning the channel for better water management.

Grants from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity paid for the work, along with local funding.
