Owner of Roselle smoke and vape shop charged with selling marijuana, LSD

The owner of a Roselle smoke and vape shop was ordered held on a $20,000 cash bond Thursday on charges he sold drugs, including marijuana and LSD, to undercover officers on at least five occasions.

Maxwell Witt of Roselle is charged with multiple counts of delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and delivery of marijuana. Witt must post the entire $20,000 to be released from custody. He next appears in court on Oct. 28.

In July, officers from the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group received information from Roselle police that the 20Past4 smoke and vape shop was involved in the illegal sale of marijuana and LSD, said Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Michael Vojta.

A DuMEG officer subsequently went undercover to purchase narcotics, Vojta said. A total of eight buys took place, according to Vojta.

On Aug. 10, prosecutors say, Witt delivered approximately 30.7 grams of cannabis to the undercover officer in exchange for $220. A week later on Aug. 17, Witt delivered approximately 20 hits of LSD for $150, prosecutors say. On that day, Witt and the undercover officer discussed the future purchase of "multiple sheets" of LSD, said Vojta, adding that a "sheet" holds 100 LSD hits.

On Aug. 18, prosecutors say, Witt delivered a half sheet of LSD in exchange for $340. On Aug. 30, Witt delivered approximately 30.2 grams of marijuana to the undercover officer in exchange for $220, at which point Witt told the officer he would have more in the next week or two, Vojta said.

On Sept. 22, following a text conversation about a marijuana purchase, the undercover officer purchased 12.8 grams of marijuana for $80. On that day, Witt and the officer also discussed purchasing three sheets of LSD for $1,350, Vojta said. At that point, officers obtained a search warrant for the vape shop that "would be executed after the delivery of the LSD," Vojta said.

On Wednesday, the defendant delivered the 300 hits of LSD and officers searched the shop, Vojta said, where they recovered an additional 69.5 grams of psilocybin, 157 grams of marijuana and $7,803.
