Local League of Women Voters announces new name and Candidate Forums in the Northwest suburbs
The League of Women Voters of the Palatine, Barrington and Schaumburg Areas will co-host two upcoming Candidate Forums for IL House Districts 51 and 52.
The former League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area recently changed its name to the League of Women Voters of the Palatine, Barrington and Schaumburg Areas (LWPBS-Areas), which now encompasses residents from 25 local ZIP codes, including Barrington, Hoffman Estates, Inverness, Palatine, Rolling Meadows, and Schaumburg.
The LWVPBS-Areas also announces the upcoming nonpartisan, in-person Candidate Forums listed below. These forums are presented as a service to voters so that they can hear directly from candidates prior to the Nov. 5 and make informed choices. About League of Women Voters Candidate Forums:
“The League format and the use of trained moderators ensures that we deliver nonpartisan candidate information. This helps voters become better equipped to select the Candidate that aligns with their personal values and concerns,” says Gayle Banakis, copresident of the LWVPBS-Area.
• League of Women Voters forums allow voters to learn about candidates from all parties in an equitable setting. Invitations are issued to all candidates who appear on the ballot for a specific race and provide each candidate with the same opportunity to address the public
• All candidate forums are run by trained moderators who do not live or vote in the districts for which they are moderating the forum. All candidates are given equal time to answer each question. The candidates will have two minutes to present an opening statement, in turn, by number drawn.
• The moderator will ask questions in rotation so that each candidate can be the first to answer. Candidates will have an equal and predetermined amount of time to answer each question. After completing the questions, each candidate will have one minute to provide a closing statement, following the same rotational order.
• All Candidate Forum questions, which have been submitted in advance by registered attendees, will be vetted by a nonpartisan team to ensure that the questions are fair and allow each candidate to present themselves in a positive manner.
• LWV forums will be recorded and available on the LWVPBS-Areas’ YouTube channel. To access, visit: lwvpalatinearea.org.
