Authorities: Man fired gun into the air and fled police

A man has been accused of firing a gun into the air and fleeing police in Glendale Heights.

On Tuesday, a judge denied pretrial release for Elexei Garcia, 34, of the 100 block of Wrightwood Avenue, Glendale Heights.

Garcia is charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer and reckless discharge of a firearm, both felonies.

At 12:16 a.m. on Tuesday, police officers went to the 1700 block of Gilberto Street to investigate a domestic dispute, authorities said.

Authorities say Garcia and his wife got into a verbal argument. When she tried to leave in her vehicle, authorities say Garcia positioned his to block her in and started to bang on her windows.

As she walked away, calling 911, police say Garcia fired a handgun in the air. He then got back in his vehicle and drove away.

Police tried to stop him at Gilberto and Altgeld Avenue. They say he drove 88 mph in a 35 mph zone through a residential area, including driving on a parkway. He was arrested at 12:40 a.m.
