Schaumburg police hosting catalytic converter theft deterrent event Sept. 10

The Schaumburg Police Department will host a free theft deterrent event for Schaumburg residents from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Jiffy Lube, 801 W. Golf Road, to help prevent vehicle catalytic converter thefts.

Police are encouraging residents who own vehicles with a high risk of catalytic converter theft to have their catalytic converter spray painted.

High-risk vehicles include Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Toyota Prius, Nissan NV200, Honda Element and Hyundai Santa Fe.

Jiffy Lube technicians will be applying spray paint onto the catalytic converters. Police officers will also be distributing complimentary "Theft Prevention" vehicle window stickers.

Marking the catalytic converter is a free crime prevention service the police department is offering to the Schaumburg community in partnership with Jiffy Lube. The visible mark is one way to help deter thieves.
