Schaumburg A.M. Rotary hosts Community Grant Awards Breakfast

The Rotary Club of Schaumburg A.M. culminated its 18/19 club year at its July 10th Community Grant Awards Breakfast. This year, the club donated over $12,000 to various organizations that provide a broad range of services in our local community and beyond and funded need based educational assistance for three residents in the form of vocational scholarships.

During its 29-year history this club has donated more than $475,000 to address a wide variety of humanitarian concerns found both in the Northwest Suburbs and worldwide.

Locally grants were awarded to -

•Child's Voice - programs for children affected by hearing loss

•WINGS Program,Inc. (Women in Need Growing Stronger) - transitional housing and services for domestic violence victims

•Boy Scouts - Pathfinder District - youth leadership and character development programs

•Shelter, Inc. - care and housing for abused and neglected children and adolescents

An international grant was presented in support of -

•Feed My Starving Children - provides nutritionally complete meals specifically formulated for mal-nourished children

The club sponsored the participation of five local high school students at the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) spring leadership development camp held annually at Camp Edwards in East Troy, WI.

At the start of the 18/19 school year club members filled more than 25 back packs with school supplies that were donated to children affected by domestic violence residing in WINGS transitional housing.

During late October 2018 Schaumburg AM Rotary donated approximately 120 new winter coats, sourced through Operation Warm, to students from low income, high risk families who utilize subsidized childcare and education services provided by the Marletta Darnall Schaumburg Child + Family Center.

At the holiday season club members contributed funding to the Children's Advocacy Center of North & Northwest Cook County for holiday gifts for children and their families affected by the trauma of child abuse.

Schaumburg AM Rotary meets for breakfast on Wednesday mornings from 7:00 - 8:30 am at Schaumburg's Egg Harbor Café located at 1310 American Lane.
