Get update on Washington St. construction project

The city of West Chicago recently announced that the first of two construction stages for the 2011 Washington Street Pavement Rehabilitation Project is nearly complete.

Remaining activities in Stage 1 include diamond grinding, joint cleaning and replacement, and joint sealing.

Stage 2 is tentatively scheduled to begin between the dates of Monday, Aug. 15 and Friday, Aug. 19, weather permitting. All construction is scheduled to be completed by October 2011.

Stage 2, which includes pavement rehabilitation of the westbound lanes, will require closure of westbound lanes along Washington Street between North Oak Street (located approximately 350 west of Route 59) and Arbor Avenue, and also the CN/UP railroad crossings and Charles Court (located approximately 900 feet northeast of Route 38).

During Stage 2, eastbound lanes completed in Stage 1 will be reopened to traffic and all movements will be restricted to eastbound travel only. During this stage, two-way traffic will continue to be allowed between the railroad crossings and Arbor Avenue.

For residents located on the north side of Washington Street along the westbound lane, we ask that you please remove any items that you desire to retain (e.g., sprinkler systems, flower beds, landscaping, retaining walls, electronic pet fences, underground cables, fences, pipes, etc.) from the public right-of-way. In addition, we ask that move your garbage bins into the street on trash day to assist the waste management collection agency in reducing traffic delays on Washington Street.

Driveway access will be periodically restricted during construction. Construction staging will require lane closures, one-way traffic, and prohibited on-street parking in order to construct the proposed improvements. Please note all construction activities are scheduled between 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

As the work progresses, the City will continue to update you on the project schedule. Please visit www.westchicago.org periodically for the latest construction news update.
