Endorsements: Della Penna, Piorkowski and Lenisa for Roselle village board

Several new faces will join the Roselle village board regardless of what happens during the April election.

Two sitting trustees aren't running, including David Pileski who is seeking to become mayor.

Now five candidates are vying for three open seats on the village board.

Incumbent Barbara Sarno, who was appointed to the board last May, is joined in the race by Thomas Piorkowski, Cheryl Lenisa, Lydia Galante and Tom Della Penna.

Della Penna, a former member of the Roselle Elementary District 12 school board, has worked on budgets and understands the financial challenges Roselle is facing because of the COVID-19 pandemic. If elected, he said, he would encourage young people to become involved in local government.

Piorkowski is another candidate with an impressive resume. He has served on the Roselle Public Library District board since 2015 and has been the president since 2019. Previously, he served on Roselle's zoning board of appeals. Piorkowski says he would like the village to review its rules for pets and animals to provide more clarity and flexibility for residents.

Lenisa says her background as a certified public accountant would help her as a trustee. She said she wants to be a voice for residents and businesses in the community.

Della Penna, Piorkowski and Lenisa have the skills and experience. They are endorsed.
