Carol Stream man charged in drug death gets 9 years
A Carol Stream man charged in connection with a woman’s drug-related death was sentenced Friday to 9½ years in prison for dealing heroin.
Divie Moore, 29, was one of three people arrested after 37-year-old Jennifer Andolfi was found dead Nov. 14 in Carol Stream.
Prosecutors said Moore sold heroin to a man who then sold it to Andolfi before she apparently overdosed on a mix of drugs in an apartment on the 600 block of East Gundersen Drive.
Moore was charged after police searched his home and found 35 packets of heroin inside a freezer in his garage, Assistant State’s Attorney Audrey Anderson said in court. Police also recovered razor blades, plastic bags and a substance commonly used to dilute heroin for distribution.
Moore pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver at a hearing Friday in front of DuPage County Judge George Bakalis, who imposed the sentence.
By law, Moore must serve at least half of the term, or a little less than five years. He could have faced up to 30 years if convicted at trial.
Also charged in the case were Edward Kliest, 43, and Tiffany Vanderbusch, 23, both of Wheaton.
Authorities said Kliest bought heroin from Moore and then sold it to Andolfi. After her death, Kliest and Vanderbusch poured bleach on and around Andolfi’s body in an attempt to hide evidence, prosecutors have said.
Vanderbusch pleaded guilty to heroin possession and was sentenced to 180 days in jail and two years of probation in January, according to court records. Kliest has pleaded not guilty and is set to return to court May 5.
