My children went through the Wauconda School system and played multiple sports while growing up. Through coaching and other activities I have gotten to know Wauconda from the bottom up. I love this town. Being a resident myself I believe that i understand my fellow residents concerns. By coaching and volunteering for multiple groups, one of those being the President of the Lake View Villa homeowners Association I feel that I know how to get things done and how to work with a variety of people. I have also been a trustee for the last 3.5 years and have learned what it takes to get things accomplished. How would you describe the condition of your community's budget, and what are the most important specific actions the town should take to assure providing the level of services that people want?As of right now the Village is in good shape. A lot of hard work has gone into getting us where we are today. Going forward there will be challenges. Some of them we already know about, and yet others will pop up. We have to be vigilant and make good decisions in an effort to stay ahead of the game and to keep Wauconda as financially healthy as possible.Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?I don't think there is anywhere obvious at this point where cuts could be made. Over the past few years cuts have been made, but right now we need to hire and employee or two in an effort to make us more efficient. I feel any cut that we made at this point would be putting the Village in a tougher spot as we try to move forward in many areas.Do you support or oppose eliminating the 911 center and outsourcing the service? Why or why not?I support keeping the 911 Dispatch Center. We have placed ourselves in position to be leaders in the this area and have the technology to back it up. If possible I would like to see us market this service and add enough new clients that the Dispatch Center could be closer to revenue neutral. Again, where other towns will need to upgrade...we are proven and ready to go.What's one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?I believe that most of the ideas that I endorse have already been tossed around, but what I would like to see a little bit better focus on is working hard to retain the businesses that we currently have, then also work hard to fill up the vacant store fronts and property. We have some very good spots available for a new business right on Rt. 176. Whether it be a small or medium sized business I feel that Wauconda has a spot for them. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office? For me, I want to continue to be on the cutting edge of recycling and other environmental activities. As Wauconda's representative for Swalco it allows me the opportunity to do just that. The big concern for me right now is the Milfoil in Bang's Lake. We are working with IDNR and waiting for them to bless the Conservation Plan. Once that has been approved we can then sit down and work on our Management Plan for Bang's Lake. This is where we will be able to take action(s) towards making Bang's Lake as healthy as possible. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Since I am focused on Wauconda I am going to go with Ed Lochmayer. I value his opinion with everything pertaining to Bang's Lake. What's the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?The Golden Rule.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?To have spent more time coaching youth sports with my father. I lost my father early and wish we could have coached together more. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Gym class. Each day was a different team and you had to learn to be flexible to make the team be all it could be.If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Get up and get going! Getting up and going is the first step to accomplishment.
