It's Another Home Run As Friendship Village of Schaumburg Schaumburg Boomers Enjoy Their Third Summer Together
It's another home run as Friendship Village of Schaumburg and members of Schaumburg Boomers enjoy their third summer together. In a win-win relationship between the two community-oriented organizations, Friendship Village is hosting three members of the professional baseball team for the summer.
The idea for Friendship Village to host players came about two years ago as Boomers management was seeking housing during the baseball season. Staying with host families helps defray costs for the players who are young and come from throughout the U.S. Friendship Village, which promotes a healthy, active and engaging lifestyle, enthusiastically embraced the idea of hosting players. "It's a wonderful chance for Friendship Village residents to experience the excitement of the young players as they fulfill their lifelong dream of playing professional baseball," said Patricia Mash, vice president of planning and marketing for Friendship Senior Options. The two previous years' experiences were resounding successes and were repeated again this year.
Appropriately enough, Friendship Village is welcoming a third Boomer as a guest in 2015 as the ball club eyes their third straight championship! The 2015 Boomers' lineup at Friendship Village features catcher Michael Valadez, infielder Jordan Dean and outfielder Justin Vasquez.
Current Hitting Coach Cameron Roth was in the inaugural class of Boomer guests at Friendship Village when he was a player in 2013. "I've had tremendous experiences with host families throughout my professional career." said Roth. "Before arriving at Friendship Village I thought it might be a neat experience in a novelty sort of way but was immediately blown away by the hospitality we received by the employees and residents. It ended up being an experience I will never forget."
At Friendship Village, all of the conveniences you could need are just outside your door. Friendship Village offers five unique dining venues, a bank, salon and spa, fitness and aquatic center, market, gift shop and even a Physician's Center. "It's the perfect situation for me." said Valadez, "I don't have a car with me during the season, but I don't need one with these accommodations. Everything is right here, and the people couldn't be more friendly!"
"Through this partnership, the Friendship Village residents are given access to their local baseball team in unique ways such as going to multiple games, throwing out the first pitch, having a resident serve as coach-for-the-day, and having a behind the scenes tour of the stadium," said Mike McCann, lifestyles director for Friendship Senior Options. "We feel this partnership provides opportunities for residents to participate in athletics, continue to be connected with their local communities, and provide unique social engagement opportunities. This is a wonderful community partnership for everybody!"
