Prescription drug drop-off

Lindenhurst police and the Drug Enforcement Administration will sponsor a prescription drug drop-off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the police department headquarters, 2300 E. Grand Ave. The event gives the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Liquids or needles or sharps will not be accepted. The service is free and anonymous. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse, and officials advise the usual methods for disposing of unused medicines - flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash - pose potential safety and health hazards. Call the village hall at (847) 356-8252.
